A classic of South Bohemian landscape painting and printmaking: he graduated from the Prague School of Applied Arts under Emanuel Dítě, Arnošt Hofbauer and František Kysela, then passed through Max Švabinský's famous graphic studio at the Academy (1916–1920). A member of the Umělecká beseda and the Hollar print association, he painted the Šumava and Písek countryside — fields, grape harvests, village labour; at the 1937 Paris World Exposition he won a gold medal, and in 1974 the title of Merited Artist. His works are owned by the National Gallery in Prague; the Grape Harvest in our collection is a typical example of his rural genre scenes.
