Artists of the Collection
František Gyurkovits
1876 Budapest–1968 Lučenec
„The painter of Novohrad“: a Budapest native with a diploma from Ede Balló (1896), he honed his eye at the Paris academies Julian and Colarossi (1902) and under Otto Seitz at the Munich academy (1904) — then anchored in Lučenec from the early 1910s, running his own private school. His plein-air landscapes, markets and portraits are kept today by the Novohrad Gallery in Lučenec, the State Gallery in Banská Bystrica and the Slovak National Gallery; his auction record is held by The Weavers. At the Market in our collection is one of his typical market scenes.
