Gyula Gutaházy Németh
1892 Hegyhátgyertyános–1959
A Hungarian painter of markets, carts and village bustle: born in Hegyhátgyertyános, he graduated from the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts; the First World War took him into Russian captivity, which left its mark on his figural work. From 1924 he exhibited regularly at the Műcsarnok and the Nemzeti Szalon; his lively scenes with horses, carts and fairground folk still appear regularly at Hungarian auctions. Both our works — In the Forest and With a Cart — belong to his most typical subjects.
