János Viski

A Hungarian painter of horses and the puszta whose road led from a cooper's son in Szokolya through Tivadar Zemplényi's studio and the Kecskemét colony all the way to South America — in 1923–1929 he painted the Argentine pampas and gauchos. The Grand Prix at the 1936 Paris Salon crowned his recognition; his dynamic compositions of galloping horses are fixtures of Hungarian auctions, and the Horse Team in our collection is a textbook example of his lifelong theme.
