Artists of the Collection
Ladislav Berecz
1910 Košice–1972
A Košice autodidact whose pictures hung in churches and in the fairgrounds of life: without an academy he forged an idiom of his own between symbolism and post-impressionism, painting sacred pictures for the churches of Galanta, Poprad, Bratislava and Košice, Tatra motifs, genre scenes and scenes from Roma life. His works appear regularly at Slovak auctions today. In the Field in our collection belongs to his genre of labour and country life.
