Vojtech Borecký
1910 Ubľa–1990 Košice
A Rusyn painter from Ubľa whose sense of colour was shaped by the famous Uzhhorod school — he studied there in evening courses under Vojtech Erdélyi, Jozef Bokšaj and Ernest Grabovský, while his military path took him to the cavalry academy in Pardubice. From 1964 he lived and worked in Košice; his landscapes, portraits and still lifes carry a romantic lyricism and a striking Subcarpathian palette. He is represented in the East Slovak Gallery, and at Slovak auctions his landscapes were fetching six-figure sums in crowns years ago. The Landscape and Spring in our collection show both sides of his colouristic temperament.
