Lőrinc Csallóközi Farkas
1898 Lakszakállas (Sokolce)–1973 Budapest
A Hungarian painter of village life, born in Lakszakállas (today Sokolce) on the Žitný ostrov island, schooled by three great names — at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts he was guided by Károly Ferenczy, Tivadar Zemplényi and Imre Révész, and he passed through the colonies of Nagybánya and Kecskemét. In 1927 he helped organise the artists' colony in Gyula; from 1918 he exhibited at Budapest's Műcsarnok. His genre scenes and landscapes are kept by the Hungarian National Gallery and the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg — and the Washerwomen by the Mill in our collection belongs precisely to this village world.
