Ede Lengyel-Reinfuss
1873 Bôrka–1942 Budapest
A painter of horses from Bôrka in the Gemer region — asked as a boy what he would become, he is said to have answered without hesitation: „lófestő“, a horse painter. He trained at the Budapest Mintarajziskola under Bertalan Székely and Ede Balló, continued in Munich with Hollósy and Ažbe and in Paris; from 1897 he exhibited at the Műcsarnok and in 1910–1920 lived and worked in Košice before settling in Budapest for good. Hussars, riders and fox hunts became his lifelong theme — and the Hunt in our collection is its textbook example.
