Artists of the Collection
Emil Paulovič
1922 Leopoldov–2004 Piešťany
An academic painter and stage designer who bequeathed a whole gallery to his native Leopoldov: he studied painting in the art department of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava and worked as a stage and costume designer at the theatres of Trnava, Zvolen, Banská Bystrica and Martin. Alongside the stage he painted the Váh river country, flower still lifes and the figure; in 1997 he donated 160 works to his home town, giving rise to a permanent exhibition. His works are also owned by the Balneological Museum in Piešťany, the Ján Koniarek Gallery in Trnava and the M. A. Bazovský Gallery in Trenčín — and the Ferry on the Váh in our collection is a homage to the river of his life.
