At the Market — a bustling market scene full of figures, colour and movement. The market is one of the oldest themes of genre painting, from the Flemish masters through 19th-century Hungarian genre to the Transcarpathian school — always an opportunity for a painter to show figures in motion, still lifes of goods, architecture and the atmosphere of a crowd on a single canvas. In the collection it joins the genre line alongside Németh's market and Antal Neogrády's fair; buying a quality painting by a less-documented author is a legitimate collecting strategy — one pays for the picture, not the signature.
