About the work
View of a Church — a baroque church with an onion dome above a wall and garden, to the right a yellow town gate with a red roof and beneath it a small group of figures in dress of the first half of the twentieth century. Flowering shrubs and dark spruces in the foreground, a blue sky with white clouds above.
The work is signed at the lower left, but the artist has not yet been identified. A genre scene with figures at a town gate is a rarity in the collection.
