Igor Pančuk

* 1958, Chernivtsi

Igor Pančuk

An academic painter and university teacher of Ukrainian origin who found a home beneath the Tatras. Born on 12 June 1958 in Chernivtsi in Bukovina, he studied oil painting in 1979 – 1984 at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Odesa Institute under P. A. Zlochevsky and I. I. Logvin and taught in 1984 – 1992 at the Kherson Institute. He has worked and exhibited in Slovakia since 1994, and since 1997 has lived in Poprad, where he runs his own Pančuk Gallery.

His work ranges from bouquets and figures through abstraction to the landscape of Spiš and the Tatras, sacred subjects — and above all the urban architecture of Poprad. He has held solo exhibitions in Martin, Humenné, Prešov, Starý Smokovec, Poprad, Bratislava, Piešťany and Trnava. Town in our collection belongs precisely to his architectural poetics.
